Notre Dame Collegiate hosted a dozen of the top 2A Boys volleyball teams from across the province this weekend to determine which was the best.

Calgary Christian took the gold medal while Edmonton Christian took the silver and Millwood, also of Edmonton, won bronze.

Fourth place went to Our Lady Mount Pleasant of Camrose.

Teams travelled from as far away as Peace River and Cold Lake, and as close as Diamond Valley.

Coach Jason Reid wasn't surprised that his undersized host team was able to compete at the provincial level, winning 9 sets and losing 8.

"The final game for our graduating players was hosted at Holy Spirit Academy where athletes started playing volleyball. It was very emotional as the game versus Glenmary of Peace River went to a third set with the Timberwolves winning 16-14, " Reid says. "I am overwhelmed that the sportsmanship between teams was exceptional even at a high level of competition. I can’t thank our organizing committee enough for all their help. It was a memorable experience."

He says they had over 70 volunteers over four days between Notre Dame and Holy Spirit.

The host Timberwolves went into the tournament ranked 12th and ended up placing 9th overall in the province.
