The High River Fire Department was kept busy Wednesday, January 15, with a house fire in the Southwest.

Fire Chief Cody Zebedee says they were able to respond quickly thanks to fast action from the homeowners.

"Fire crews were dispatched to a report of a building fire on the 500 block of 6th Street Southeast. That was around 9:40 p.m. Upon arrival fire crews found a working fire in the chimney of the home. All the family, occupants of the home, including pets were able to get out successfully due to working smoke alarms in the home."

Zebedee says the fire was limited to the fireplace and the roof.

"The fire was able to be contained to the fire place chimney chase and a little bit of the roof and some smoke damage and minor water damage to the interior of the home."

Zebedee, says they're still looking into what caused the fire.

"You know, we're not sure what the cause is right now. We're just under investigation right now trying to determine the exact cause of the fire."

Zebedee reminds homeowners to make sure their fireplace is professionally cleaned at least once a year and certified to be in good working order before you use it.
