High River broke a nearly 100-year-old heat record on Monday (July 24).

A high of 34.9 degrees was recorded in town, smashing the old record of 31.1 degrees, set in 1928.

That's just one of 18 new records in the province that day.

Taber and Claresholm's new records of 37.7 and 35.4 degrees topped previous highs, both set in 2007.

The Calgary Area's new record of 35.1 degrees overtook a record set in 1890.

The Medicine Hat area saw the highest heat, tying their 1890 record of 38.9 degrees.

Monday also saw significant hail in some areas, with golf ball-sized hail reported east of Edson.
