The Nanton Palominos were supposed to be playing at Provincials in Fort Saskatchewan over the weekend but were suspended by Hockey Alberta.

Not only were the Palominos suspended so were the AAA Innisfail Eagles.

It all stems back to when the Ranchland Senior Men's AA Hockey League agreed to allow the Innisfail Eagles to join the league this year but only for regular season play.

Kelly Otto, President of the Ranchland league, says it's about a disagreement over allowing the Eagles to play in the playoffs and provincials.

"Innisfail asked us because there was really no place for them to play if they could join our league for regular season only and not provincials or playoffs.

However, after the regular season ended the Ranchland league was told the Eagles were going to be part of the playoffs and provincials.

"I got an email from Hockey Alberta that went out to all the teams in the Ranchland that said...Hockey Alberta is suspending the Ranchland because we would not participate with Innisfail in the playoffs.

Otto also clarified that the initial agreement was clear the Eagles, a AAA Senior Men's team, would not be able to participate in playoffs or provincials.

So, there was no representation at the Senior AA Men's Provincials over the weekend from any team from the Ranchland league.

The provincials were won by the Lacombe Generals, formerly the Bentley Generals, in sudden death overtime 3-2 over the Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs.
