The Highwood Mustangs football program is going to get started a little later than others this year.

Coach Brian Brandford says they won't get their camp started until the school year starts next week.

"We just decided to forgo a game before school started. And decided that we're going to start at school. So our first day will be Tuesday, September 5, for grade nine's only, but we'll have our first practice that day."

Brian Brandford says after a couple of hard years of work, he thinks this could be a big year for the team.

"We have about 18 guys coming back, but they've been in the program for two years. So, they kind of know what's going on, so I'm looking for a break-out year this year, and I think this is going to be the year for it for sure."

Brandford says they'll get a couple of weeks of practice in, then play their first game on Friday, September 15, in Calgary against the Rundle College Cobras.
