For the second year in a row, the MD of Taber has declared a municipal agricultural disaster.

According to the MD, last year's extreme heat and drought conditions have carried over into this year, and even with the recent rain, crop producers are still struggling.

They also cited a long wait time for provincial assistance after the 2021 declaration.

They did see some rain recently, though it wasn't enough to significantly combat the lack of moisture they've been experiencing.

A release from the MD also references the Alberta Crop Report, which shows the surface soil moisture as of May 31 as between 36.5 and 49.7 per cent, which is worst than last year.

They're hoping the declaration will spread awareness of the situation facing farmers, and encourage collaboration with producers and the federal and provincial governments.

Last year, over 40 Alberta municipalities made the same declaration.
