The High River Flyers are in the market for a new coach.

Long time Coach Murray Wegener has hung up his whistle after 23 years in the coaching ranks.

Flyers President Bill Holmes says Wegener deserves to go out on his own terms.

"He spent 23 winters away from his family, who've been very supportive of him," he says. "So, for us it's a loss for sure, but it's going to be great for Murray and his family. I know that he's looking forward to it for sure."

Wegener will remain on the board of the Flyers.

In the meantime, the hunt is on for a new Head Coach and Holmes says they're seeing plenty of interest.

"We've got very qualified applicants who've qualified already, as well as our own current coaching staff," he says. "We're not overlooking them because we're about developing, not only players, but perhaps some future coaches as well, and so this is a great opportunity for us to look inside as well as outside."

Holmes says they'll have their new coach in place by the end of July.
