The WPCA run-off's kicked off Thursday night in Bashaw with a couple of locals looking to make the cut for next year's World Pro Chuckwagon Tour.

Mark Sutherland's Son, Dayton, who just missed out last year, is back in the running this year.

He finished seventh out the 12 drivers Thursday night, which was good for six points.

Milo's Jess Willard picked up just two points for his 11th place finish on the night.

Willard was on the tour this summer, but had a rough go, finishing last out of the 36 drivers on tour with just 288 points.

With the retirement of driver Jerry Bremner, and Barry Hodgson electing not to return to the 2016 WPCA Pro Tour, six spots are up for grabs in the event, with the top six drivers after the four nights of racing invited to join the regular tour next season.
