Okotoks youth are calling for more community activities aimed at their demographic.

After several high school students sounded off at the "Shaping the Future" youth conference on Friday, young adults are feeling empowered to speak their minds regarding what they want to see from the town.

James Bitz, student at Foothills Composite, says he feels people his age are underrepresented when it comes to events and activities in the town.

"There's a lot of thing for kids and adults, but not a lot that the youth want to go to because we either don't have the money or it's just not appealing to us."

Naomi Loose, another Composite student says she'd love to see a mall built in town.

"It would be welcoming for all types of people, there could be a common area with couches and stuff for youth to have a place that is safe to hang and belong."

The Youth Conference was a big success, and high school attendants say they were relieved to see they were being listened to and being taken seriously.
