Live theatre is alive and well in Okotoks.

The Dewdney Players are returning to the stage with their latest production: L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables.

It'll be performed at the Olde Towne Plaza, in keeping with the Players' summer tradition, while also providing a comfortable space for those who may be hesitant to attend indoor events.

This will be the directorial debut for Chloe Payton who's looking forward to showing off what the group's been preparing.

"We have a few really exciting things, and we've really worked hard to make things like that work. We have a little mock-up of a boat that can be wheeled around, so we're really putting in all the effort so that we can make this look really good."

While the group dabbled in online productions at the height of the pandemic, Payton is glad there will be an in-person audience once again and doesn't miss the downsides of doing things online.

"There definitely isn't as much feedback, especially with a funny show. You don't get the laughter the audience would usually have, there isn't as much energy. It's definitely difficult and feels stilted in a way."

The production has been in the works since May, with much of the work being done virtually at first before easing into in-person rehearsals as restrictions were lifted.

Heading into opening night, Payton is feeling proud of her cast and crew more than anything.

"We had to do a line readthrough over Zoom. We've been rehearsing outside with a few weather delays unfortunately. And when we have been inside, we've been wearing masks. We've been doing as much as we can, so I'm really proud of the cast for pushing through it."

They'll be hosting evening shows on July 23, 24, 30, and 31 at 7 p.m., with 2 p.m. matinee shows on July 24, 25, 31, and August 1.

As far as tickets, they'll be doing admission by donation.
