Friday night's Calgary Stampeders-Hamilton Tiger Cat CFL game is a special one for Stamps running back Charlie Power.

It's his 100th CFL game.

When he started, he didn't expect to be in the league this long.

"No, I think when you look around football league, even south of the border, careers generally don't last that long I didn't expect it but you work hard every year to stick around and I've been fortunate enough to do just that," he says.

Power says a lot of that came from his time growing up in Okotoks.

"Obviously with (coach) Matt Hassett and the Knights. I mean they're rolling this year, I don't think we were ever that good, but that's kind of where that started or even before that with the Eagles program, the football out there is in a class of its own and that's kind of what got me started and I was able to carry what I learned there through university and that got me into the CFL," Power says.

He's had a number of highlights through his eight seasons with the Stamps.

"There's been a lot, obviously that Grey Cup win, just being fortunate enough to go to the Grey Cup three times, obviously those losses don't feel good, but it's hard to pinpoint, every year is different. You build a bond with guys on the team throughout the year and if you're lucky enough you keep that core group over the years, but just the camaraderie, being with the guys, the organization, growing within it, we have a lot of continuity here that's why we've been successful over the years, so just being able to play with the Stampeders organization in my backyard has been perfect, I couldn't have written it better myself."

Power says after the cancelled season in 2019 and missing 2021 with a torn Achilles he set a goal to get healthy enough that he could get to 100 games, so he's looking forward to it.

It's kind of a full-circle moment as he caught his first pass against the Ti-Cats in 2015.

Kick-off is set for 7:45 tonight.
