Both Okotoks and High River are recognizing the valuable contributions made to local communities on this National Indigenous Peoples Day.

In Okotoks, Dewdney Park will be renamed Piistoo Park in a re-naming ceremony set for 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Okotoks Art Gallery.

Elders and drummers from Siksika Nation will be on hand for the event.

High River falls within an area that is the traditional home of the Blackfoot people and has historically been used by both the Stoney and Blackfoot tribes.

The Treaty 7 flag will be raised at the town office.
