A young boy from Okotoks crushed his fundraising goal for cancer research after the annual Terry Fox Run was canceled this year.

Five-year-old Raymond MacNeil says he felt it was important to continue the annual event.

"Because we need to find a cure for cancer by going on the Terry Fox Run," said Raymond.

Raymond's mother, Ellen MacNeil, says their personal experiences with cancer and Raymond's love for Terry Fox are two of many reasons he decided to form his own event.

"I have a sister who passed away from cancer, and then I also have a twin sister and my mom both had cancer in the last few years. It's always been around us, talking about it and working through all that stuff, and he is such a huge fan of Terry," she said.

Raymond completed two walks, one scooter, and one bike ride around his neighborhood pond.

His starting goal was to raise $100, which has climbed to $1600 as of September 21st.

Raymond also received a personal invite by telephone to the Terry Fox Foundation in Calgary, where he will be able to view a replica of Terry Fox's leg.
