A recently-opened art exhibit in Okotoks features a colorful and creative display of local artists' interpretations of Southern Alberta.

Fresh Picked Southern Alberta is currently ongoing at the Lineham House Gallery on Elma Street.

Lineham House Gallery co-owner Janifer Calvez points out that the exhibit features the work of 13 area artists, who have each submitted three to five pieces of art for the show.

Co-owner Cheryl Taylor adds that a variety of media, from wood-burning to encaustic wax to ceramics, are currently featured.

"The idea was to bring in work that was all created from artists and artisans in this area that is derived from their experience and connection to land or subject matter in the area and then just put a bit of a twist on it," Taylor explains.

She says the exhibit will challenge people's expectations of Southern Alberta with creative interpretations of the region.

"This show will push their expectations a little bit and start to play with the idea of what is involved with the idea of our experiencing Southern Alberta at the moment," Taylor says.

Fresh Picked Southern Alberta runs until September 20th. All art featured in the show is available for purchase.
