Passing of Mr. Ken Bracko

It is with a great deal of sadness that the Calgary Jr. A Canucks organization learned on Tuesday of the passing of Ken Bracko. Mr. Bracko was the President of the organization for over 20 years and was involved with the team for over 30 years. Following June's Annual General Meeting, he chose to continue on the Board as Vice-President of Business Operations.

"It is with heavy hearts today that we learned of the news of Ken’s passing," said Canucks President Pat Loyer. "Ken Bracko was a great man, a man who cared deeply about his family, about people and about the Calgary Canucks. Ken’s passion and dedication reflected on how he lived his life. Ken will be sorely missed by everyone that knew him and his memory will live on forever. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Bracko family"

Mr. Bracko was always so gracious and humble, preferring that any recognition be directed towards the players. His goal was always to ensure that Calgary players had the opportunity to play at the highest level possible and stay in Calgary to do so. He was always the first to offer to help whether it be by helping to found the Mac's Midget Tournament or the Southern Alberta Major Midget Hockey League, by raising the funds to ensure the Calgary Canucks could play or by watering community rinks late at night.

His contributions helped thousands of Calgary and Albertan players get opportunities to further themselves through hockey at all levels.

“I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Ken Bracko for the past 40 years,” said Canucks Director and former Coach Don Phelps. “I know of no one who has given so much as a volunteer and wanted nothing in return. He was a true “family man” who impacted many other families. He was the ultimate definition of a volunteer.”

Ken Bracko was the 2014 recipient of the Sportsman of the Year Award handed out by the Calgary Booster Club.

The Calgary Jr. A Canucks will be dedicating the 2015-2016 to Ken Bracko's honour and memory.
