It was a slow start, but the Okotoks Dawgs found a way to win last night. They knocked off the Medicine Hat Mavericks 7-4.

The Dawgs gave up two runs in the first inning, and struggled to string anything together offensively until the seventh.

Down 4-0 in the bottom of the seventh, the Dawgs offense came alive.

A lead-off double for Richard Mascarenas turned into their first run, when the infielder scored off a Gavin Logan double.

With two outs and two on, Jacob Melton knocked in his first home run of the season, knotting the score at 4-4.

The Dawgs' bats stayed hot in the eighth, when they knocked in three more runs to give them the lead. They wouldn't look back from there.

With the win, the Dawgs improve to 27-9, 8.5 games up on Lethbridge in the West division.

Okotoks and Medicine Hat will face off again tonight at Seaman Stadium, before heading south for the third game of the series.

First pitch tonight is scheduled for 7:05.
