An Okotoks fitness trainer has earned the distinction of being named one of Canada's top fitness trainers for 2020.

Julie Hodge, Owner of Julie Hodge fitness, earned the distinction after 30 years of fitness training in Calgary and Okotoks.

"It's pretty much a dream come true," she said. "I've read that magazine since it started actually. I started my career about 30 years ago, and (the magazine) started 28 years ago."

For Hodge, fitness training is all about adapting to the needs of each of your clients.

"One size does not fit all, and everyone comes into the studio with their own abilities, limitations, injuries, even mental fears, and intimidations," she said. "You really have to be able to accommodate your training style and approach to exactly what that specific human being needs."

Hodge, who works exclusively with women, credits Joseph Pilates and her Kinesiology degree for getting her into the fitness field.

"Just loving movement, loving movement since a young age, and loving to help other people move well," she said.

Moving forward, Hodge says she is currently working with the Okotoks Optimist Club to get a fun run started for kids in the Foothills.

"There is nothing for kids three to five," she said. "A fun little one lap or half-lap race where they can get recognized, train with their parents, and just do something fun for kids."
