It won't be quite the same when the chucks race around the track at the Calgary Stampede this July.

High River driver Jason Glass says they'll be down to three wagons per heat this year.

That's after the Stampede reduced the number of outriders in previous years.

"The Calgary Stampede has always been four wagons and years ago it used to be four outriders per wagon too and they went down to two outriders instead of four and now they're going to three wagons instead of four wagons per heat, I think like everything else in this world things seem to change for many reasons, you know I don't sit on any of those decision making boards and so it's hard to complain so I'm just going to accept it and do our best, I mean it's still going to be very exciting, you've still got beautiful wagon horses, thoroughbreds on that race track running very hard and fast and we're still going to put on a great show."

Though he didn't race last year he's going to be ready when the horn blows.

"I did train horses the last two years in the spring time so I did keep up on that, I've got ten or twelve new horses here that have been trained although they haven't been in an actual race and then I've got what I call the old boys, my quality race horses, there's three quality outfits of them out here, so I do have lots of horses I've been training," he says.

He says it's always a challenge and something his family has always loved.

Glass is looking forward to the whole season which starts the May long weekend in Grande Prairie.

The Calgary Stampede runs from July 8 to the 17, 2022.
