Christmas isn't a happy time for everyone.

One local nurse and counsellor wants those people who don't enjoy the holidays or are feeling a little down currently, to know that's okay.

Elaine Schow with Solera Health Quest in High River says what your feeling is valid.

"This last 20 months with COVID, the pandemic and restrictions and all that that has brought to our lives, on top of our daily lives can be challenging.

"I've been seeing a lot of people who are tired, overwhelmed, and who are looking forward to some easier times."

If that resonates with you, Schow says the most important thing to note is you're not alone.

"I think it has been a tough year or two, and one of the most important things for people to recognize is that yes, it has been tough and you're not alone."

For those needing immediate help or who are feeling suicidal, call the 24-hour distress line at 403-266-4357 or 9-1-1.

If you just need a little boost to make it through the holidays, there are some little things you can do such as taking time for yourself to do something you enjoy.

Whether it's taking a bath, baking, or playing a video game doing something you enjoy without blame or shame is important.

Ensure you're creating healthy habits, like eating healthy and getting active.

It's also important during this time of year, to let a little light in and open your curtains and blinds, or get outside for fresh air.

Community Support Services are closed in High River until January 4th.
