A candidate forum for the Highwood riding is coming up next week.

It’s scheduled for Wednesday, May 17 at the Okotoks Evangelical Free Church.

The Okotoks and Diamond Valley Chambers of Commerce are partnering for the event, which will act as a forum for local candidates to speak about their platforms and take questions from constituents.

Executive director Dawn LeMaistre says it will be similar to the previous forums held for the recent municipal and federal elections, including questions from constituents.

"We'll do a survey to our membership and on our website for people to submit questions. It will be an open forum, but everything will be scanned through in advance to make sure we don't have multiples of the same question or there aren't questions we can't broach at an event like that. Then there will be an opportunity for public engagement at the event as well. They'll be able to submit questions to us and we can add those to the list."

Three candidates were listed when the event was first announced, though a fourth candidate, Shawn Rooney of the Wildrose Loyalty Coalition, has since announced their intent to run in the riding.

LeMaistre says the invitation stands for any future candidates.

They’re having a third party come in to moderate.

"We're pretty fortunate, we have the president of the Alberta Chamber of Commerce, Shauna Feth is coming down to moderate the forum on behalf of the Alberta Chamber. It's super exciting because we'll get to tie in our full association and what we stand for around the vote prosperity platform that the Alberta Chambers have," says LeMaistre.

It’ll go from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
