The Alberta Schools Athletic Association has updated their stance on students returning to sports action once school gets going again.

They say until the Province moves to stage three of their re-launch strategy they're going to postpone all provincial championships and other league games.

Oilfields Drillers Athletic Director, Leigh Bretzlaff, says even then, for students in these parts it's going to come down to what local school divisions decide.

"In school practicing, we'll have to get guidance from the Foothills School Division and clearance from them first before we can proceed with that. Because school divisions supercede what the Alberta Schools Athletic Association has set out already."

Bretzlaff, says it's not easy on kids who want to play sports.

"It's super tough! I feel sad for everybody involved. You have these student athletes, some kids come to school because they want to be part of their school programs, their school teams and they train outside of school and they work really hard while they're in school and you know you feel bad for those guys."

The ASAA says they continue to speak with parents, athletes, school divisions and the Province when it comes to getting athletes back on the field or the court.
