The U9 Boys team with the High River Minor Soccer Association made history this year.

They are the first team from High River to win a medal in the Anthem Cup as they scooped up a silver medal.

It was also the first time teams from High River were invited.

Tony Walker, Vice-President and Director of Community Relations says the team came together quickly as he also coached the U9 Boys team.

"Playing against teams from Calgary and Lethbridge...they got a lot more practice in than we got. We actually only had one practice before the tournament."

The tournament is spread out over two weekends in January and welcomes teams from Red Deer, Lethbridge and everywhere in between.

There were over 100 teams entered into the tournament this year which makes the silver medal win even that much more of an accomplishment.

The U13 Boys team almost won Bronze but lost 2-1 in the final and the U11 Boys team also played well but did not medal.

The indoor soccer tournament was played at the Calvary FC Regional Field House near Aldersyde.

And the indoor soccer spring league is getting ready to kick off again after a two year delay due to the pandemic.

Registration is now open for the two different programs offered; House league and Travel league.

The House league is open for kids between 3 and 16 years of age while the Travel league is made up of U9's to U15's.

The Travel league is comprised of teams within the High Country league and is made up of teams throughout the region but does not include teams from Calgary.

And once again the organization is looking for volunteers to help with coaching and helping out.  They do provide hands on training for anyone regardless of experience.

They even have a QR code to make registration even easier this year.
