The recent food drive in High River is being deemed a success.

Shiela MacDonald with Family Services at the Salvation Army says the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was able to collect about 30,000 pounds of food on that Saturday.

"It's a little bit less compared to last year but given the situation that we are in right now with all the prices going up, rent utilities going up, gas going up it's still a very good turnout I would say."

She says they can always use more fresh fruit and vegetables and with the end of gardening season upon us the Salvation Army is getting lots of donations of potatoes and carrots.

The Christmas hamper program registration will begin later this month and the community dinners are back.

Last month they were at capacity in the church basement.

The next dinner is October 26.
