High River RCMP say they've arrested a wanted male.

On Feb. 16, an officer was out on regular patrols when a man was seen riding his bike across 12th Ave SE in an unsafe manner.

When the officer spoke with the man in regards to safer riding habits on his bicycle, the man provided a fake name and the officer recognized him as a person who was wanted for numerous warrants by High River RCMP and Medicine Hat Police.

RCMP then attempted to arrest the man who took off down a pathway on his bike.

Moments later, the male fell off his bike after hitting a patch of ice on the pathway then continued to flee on foot.

The officer found him hiding nearby between houses thanks to tips from a citizen.

Medical staff cleared the male of any injuries he may have sustained during his fall while fleeing from police.

RCMP say that Gary James Warnica of High River has been formally charged with two counts of obstructing/resisting a peace officer.

A judicial interim release hearing was held and Warnica was released on a bail release order.

Warnica is scheduled to appear in Okotoks Provincial Court later this week, then next month in Medicine Hat for matters that took place there.
