The Town of High River and the High River Curling Club are looking at tweaking their facility license agreement.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says he doesn't think the curling club should be paying a fee of $31,400 a year for the privilege of running a curling rink badly in need of repair.

"I do not feel that it's appropriate to be charging the full rate they've been paying over the years when we keep neglecting our to hold our responsibility of providing the right product. And a flat surface floor for a curling club is one of them."

Snodgrass says the fee they charge is too much given the poor shape the curling club is in after the floor took a real beating following the 2013 flood.

"This is one of those things where council after council looks at their budget and dealing with this floor is an expensive venture, and it's always very low hanging fruit to take out of your budget every year because you've got other things that you want to do."

Snodgrass says the bottom line is the floor needs to be replaced.

"The challenge is that when you replace the curling floor you have to replace the small ice surface floor as well. Because both ice surfaces run on the same chiller. That's where it gets complicated and that's where it gets expensive. But, at the same time it's past its due date, it's sagging and it just needs to be fixed."

While Snodgrass wants to see them get a break, he says there are no plans to replace the floor in either the curling rink or the small arena at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex on the table at this time.
