High River may not be top of mind for the new NDP government but it hasn't been forgotten either.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says he's already been able to speak with Premier Rachel Notley.

"I had a good talk with her and brought all of High River's concerns as to what we need to do to finish off the mitigation projects, being the southwest berm and the Centre Street bridge," he says.

Snodgrass says he's willing to give the new government time to get up to speed but there are issues like the Disaster Recovery Program that need to be dealt with.

"It's not a tough topic to resolve this, it's actually elementary level discussions, it just need decision-making power, somebody needs to get at this and have the guts to make some decisions on this and stop micro-analyzing these things," Snodgrass says. "We're spending way more money micro-analyzing than it would have taken just to pay the money out. Maybe you gave some dude a thousand bucks more than you should have. Guess what. You probably saved $20,000 in time and staff and everything else."

He's received assurances from Environment Minister Shannon Phillips that those projects have not been shelved and are still proceeding through the process.

Snodgrass says he's not willing to wait ten years for it to happen.
