A good sized crowd came out to take in the "soft launch" of the High River Royal Canadian Legion Wednesday night.

It was the first time the Legion's been open since the beginning of the year while they had the old floor taken up and a new floor put down through the facility.

President of the Legion, Linda Reed thanked all the volunteers who stepped up to help out with moving furniture and cleaning.

She also singled out for thanks local businesses that helped them raise money for the floor project and for their help at Remembrance Day by donating food.

Reed says the new floor even makes the Legion look bigger than before.

Last year they painted the entire interior and added a new sound system and an 86" television screen which will come in handy next month.

"As part of the re-opening in February we're having free coffee and doughnuts on the 1st and 2nd, that's so everyone can come in and have a look and love it like we do. And then one the meat draw, which is Saturday the 3rd, we're having a double meat draw, so we used to have ten meat draws on a Saturday, we're having 20, we usually give away two $25 Sobey's gift cards, we're giving away four, plus we have two $15 Legion gift cards so we hope it brings people out."

She says on Sunday, February 4, they're having a movie matinee at 2:00 showing the film Calendar Girls with free coffee, tea, and popcorn on that big screen.

On Feb. 10 they've got Mexican dancers coming in at 5:00 and 6:00 chef Rob will be serving up a Mexican Fiesta featuring Mexican food.

"The following Friday is our Pub Night with Kenny and the Cow Tippers, they were well received last time and we're getting them back," Reed says.
