High River council has passed an interim budget for 2024.

It allows the town to keep operating without pressuring councillors to complete it without all the relevant information.

The interim operating budget is set at 75 per cent of last year's budget, or $24.394 million.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says it's too early to see what kind of tax increase ratepayers may see.

"Council has to decide how much of our tax stabilization fund we want to put towards any increase that's going to come out of the budget," he says.

He says there's more information they're looking for.

"We did the interim budget because we still need more time to decide on a couple of capital projects and how much. The operating side is pretty much taken care of at this point it's just finalizing the capital side to make sure that all of council's priority projects are being looked at and taken care of."

The final budget is expected to be approved by the end of January.
