High River council has taken another step toward getting work underway on an aquatic centre expansion at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says they're starting to look for a project manager.

"We're looking for a project manager that will take on the project for us and manage the whole thing from start to finish that's a consultant, separate from the Town of High River."

"It's a big project so expecting our staff to manage that is not realistic with everything else they have going on," he says.

He says getting that project manager hired will really help get the work plan nailed down and getting the geotech work done so they know what's underground before they move forward with architectural designs, especially since they're tying into the older part of the building and need to know what kind of engineering work needs to be done.

Under the draft timeline council's adopted, the project would go out to tender in December of 2023 or January of 2024 and be open in the fall of 2025.

Mayor Snodgrass says the timeline could change depending on circumstances.
