Municipal Enforcement reminds residents of the risks of pets or people in hot vehicles as the Foothills rolls through another heat wave this week.

Kelly Steinwand, Municipal Enforcement Manager for the Town of Okotoks, says calling for help is the best option, as opposed to taking the matter into your own hands.

"We would encourage the general public to get a hold of the RCMP or Municipal Enforcement officers who can be there in a very short time. Breaking somebody's window, you would be responsible for that damage, of course," he said.

Steinwand also says it's best to find an alternative to having to leave a pet or person in a vehicle as temperatures will soar to a scorching high of 38 degrees.

"It only takes a minute or two for a car to overheat in this temperature. A lot of people believe you can just crack your window, and that's going to be enough and it really isn't. It's just not safe," he said.

He says it's best to leave our furry friends at home to avoid any issues, and residents are also reminded never to leave a child unattended in a vehicle, much less a hot one.
