The Town of Okotoks is holding a Grand Reopening ceremony for Ethel Tucker Park this weekend.

Ethel Tucker was a well-known community member who showed her dedication through volunteerism with several organizations including the Okotoks Oilers, Okotoks Food Bank, and Red Cross.

In 1976, she was named Okotoks' first Citizen of the Year.

When she passed away in 1995, the Centennial Park on Riverside Drive was renamed in her honour.

The park itself was once located where the new Okotoks Public Library stands, though the town made a commitment to dedicate space on the Arts & Learning Campus to the park.

Ethel Tucker Park now features a large open space, peace poles bearing the message May Peace Prevail on Earth in multiple languages, and a buffalo climbing feature installed in 2022.

The official reopening ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, July 15 from 1-3 p.m.

Members of Ethel Tucker's family will be in attendance, as well as dignitaries from the town.

"Old fashioned" activities and refreshments will be provided after the ceremony.
