The Foothills Composite High School/Alberta High School of the Fine Arts is partnering with the Town of Okotoks once again for the third Paint-a-Potty initiative. As part of this project, students will create sports-themed murals on three of the Town's outdoor concrete washrooms. The Town invites residents to participate by selecting the three new designs.

“This year’s theme for Paint-A-Potty revolves around the Alberta Summer Games. Students from Alberta High School of Fine Arts have designed sports-themed washrooms to emphasize the healthy value that sports, community and art have to offer,” said Michelle Smyth, Visual Arts Teacher at Alberta High School of Fine Arts in a media release.

“These murals will be emphasizing the bright spirit of Okotoks while showing off the talent of the youth in this community to the visitors of the Summer Games.”

The Alberta Summer Games will take place in Okotoks and Black Diamond from July 20 to 23, 2023.

Voting will be open until March 26 at 4:00pm.

The specific concrete washrooms are located at:

  • ·Bill Robertson Park
  • ·Kinsman Park – MacRae Street West
  • ·Sheep River Park – 101 Woodhaven Drive

“This project helps enrich our community through public art” said Culture & Heritage Team Leader, Allan Boss. “This is a great way to create unique spaces, engage the community, and have students sharing their talents to beautify the town. It’s an all-around win.”

The winning designs will be announced in April and the mural painting will begin in May. The painting is scheduled for completion by the end of the 2023 school year.
