A portion of the Alberta government's fuel tax is going to be added to the price we pay at the pump.

For the rest of this month, we'll keep receiving the 13 cents a litre discount but starting October 1st, Albertans will save 8.5 cents on every litre of gas and diesel.

The Fuel Tax Relief Program was brought in earlier this year to help deal with higher fuel costs.

The government said it would review the program quarterly and re-evaluate fuel tax savings if the average price of West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell below $90US a barrel.

Prices over the four-week period ending September 15th averaged $89.26 per barrel.

The government estimates we'll still save over $200 million over the next three months with the reduced fuel tax savings.

We'll get another update in December.
