High River's Jeremy Tanner is turning into a pretty big deal in the golf industry.

Starting as one of the "shop kids" at the Highwood Golf Club, he's moved up to the big time as the new Head Pro at Edmonton's Highlands Golf Club.

Tanner says he's owes a debt to former Highwood Pro and current River's Edge Head Pro, Kim Wilkowich.

"He taught me everything he knew and before you knew it I was 18 and decided to move on for a couple of years to River's Edge just outside of Okotoks. I was extremely fortunate to come across Ron Laugher, the Head Professional at Priddis Greens. Proceeded to go on there for the next eight years and that's where I owe a lot of my time to is to Kim and Ron."

Tanner got his first gig as a Head Pro last year at Speargrass near Carseland, and says he had no intention of leaving until he saw this job posted late last fall.

He says he'll miss Southern Alberta, but is looking forward to adjusting to life in the Capital Region, although he says he'll still be cheering loudly for the Flames and Stamps.

Tanner starts his new job in a couple of weeks.
