Trustees with the Foothills School Division have been going over the books.

Superintendent Chris Fuzessy says they're where they should be at this time of year, about 80 percent through the school year and are doing good.

He says they have had three challenges facing them.

"One being property insurance costs which have increased by 400 percent over the last two years, so we now have a $2.5 million dollar property insurance invoice, transportation costs we're still spending more than we're funded there and as well as facility services costs and part of that is custodial," he says.

Fuzessy says the board thinks it wouldn't be right to reduce custodial services at the beginning of the year since the state of the pandemic by then isn't known, but they may have to come up with a plan to phase that out because there were increased costs for custodial services through the last school year.

He says Alberta Education has given school boards more time to come up with a budget so that will now be presented at the board's June 16 meeting.
