The Foothills Philharmonic Society is celebrating 10 years of bringing music to the community.

They're marking the event with a concert on Feb. 25.

Musical Director Jeff Hibberd, who has been with the group since their second year, has been able to watch the group grow their humble origins to the community they are today.

"We've grown from a single adult choir to include a vocal jazz ensemble, a chamber choir, the Foothills Mens Chorus joined us, we have an orchestra, and our newest group as well, the Junior Singers for the little ones."

Those ensembles have seen talent from Okotoks, High River, Diamond Valley, Nanton, and South Calgary.

Hibberd is excited that most of them will be showcased at the anniversary concert.

"We're having almost all of our ensembles performing at this concert, which has never been done before... There's going to be a huge variety of music," says Hibberd.

That includes the Junior Singers making their debut.

Longtime member Nadia Plumb loves the group's inclusive nature and the community that's grown over the years.

"Every year it's been fantastic. Obviously, during COVID it was a little bit of a different thing, we kept in touch as a community but we weren't able to sing in person for a couple years there. I always say it's like group therapy, but it's music. The main chorus is not auditioned, you learn from the people next to you, and if you can sing "O Canada" you can probably join the main chorus... It's such a healthy, happy environment, we love being there."

The concert is being held at the Okotoks Alliance Church at 3:00 p.m.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, and admission will be free for children 12 and under. They're available online, and if any are left, they'll also be available at the door.
