Okotoks athletes helped take home the second-highest medal count at last weekend's 2020 Alberta Winter Games.

Zone 2 included areas neighboring Calgary, such as Airdrie, and the Foothills region. The zone went on to win this year's Spirit of Sport award.

"We had lots of good medals - 26 gold, 27 silver, and 21 bronze," said Zone 2 Chief Nathan Sawicki. "That's a great turnout for our kids."

Sawicki says the City of Airdrie did a great job handling this year's games.

"All the athletes I talked to, and all the coaches, really had a great time and enjoyed it," he said. "Second place is awesome. Usually, we're in the top four, which is great. But to be top two is awesome."
