This recipe was found in a stack of old recipes, probably about 50 or 60 years old.

The page was very yellowed, tattered and spilled on, so I assumed it would be really good!

Peanut Butter Cookies

1 2/3 cups sifted enriched flour

1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Few grains of salt

1/2 cup butter or margarine

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

1/2 cup dark corn syrup

1/2 cup peanut butter

1 well beaten egg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Additional 1/2 cup peanut butter, optional.

Mix and sift together flour, baking powder and salt.

Cream butter or margarine; gradually add sugar, and cream until light and fluffy.

Add syrup and 1/2 cup peanut butter, beating until smooth and well blended.

Add beaten egg and vanilla.

Add sifted dry ingredients, a little at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Shape dough into balls, about 1 inch in diameter.

Place on ungreased baking sheet; flatten cookies with a fork.

Place about 1/2 teaspoon of peanut butter or chopped peanuts on top of each cooky.

Bake in moderate oven (350 F) 12 to 15 minutes. Makes about 3 1/2 dozen.

Ok, so that is the recipe, word for word. I would recommend adding extra peanut butter as I found them to be a bit crumbly. If the dough is too soft to form balls right away just pop it in the fridge for a bit. I also rolled the balls in granulated sugar before flattening with a fork and I added a m&m or a whole peanut on top. I also found that this recipe did not make 3 1/2 dozen cookies.

Enjoy!
