A garbage fire has left a big mess in a parking lot just outside of Okotoks.

The garbage truck driver was about to pick up a load at the Big Sky BBQ Pit when he noticed his current load was on fire.

He dumped it immediately before it could catch the truck on fire, emptying his pile of garbage in the parking lot.

Foothills and Okotoks Fire detachments responded.

The fire is out, and Foothills Fire remains on scene waiting for the garbage truck company to take care of the cleanup.
