People in and around High River looking to get their first dose without having to book an appointment will get their wish this Thursday (July 8).

Alberta Health Services will be offering first doses of an mRNA vaccine at the Highwood Memorial Centre (128 5 Ave SW) from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

There will be 300 doses available. Those attending the clinic will need to bring their Alberta Health Card if they have one, as well as photo ID.

Wearing a face mask and using hand sanitizer is required while on site.

Anyone experiencing symptoms should stay home.

The province has been setting up clinics such as this in communities with lower immunization uptake.

The percentage of those 12 and up in High River with at least one dose is at 66.3 per cent compared to the 73.5 per cent province-wide.

Currently, 57.9 per cent of those of all ages in High River have been vaccinated with their first dose.

Those between the ages of 20 to 39 have the lowest vaccination rate, currently at 48.3 per cent.

Almost 40 per cent of those in High River have been fully vaccinated.

There's only one active case currently in the town.
