The change of seasons could mean a shift in calls for the Okotoks Fire Department.

The types of calls they receive may change with harvest season here and cooler weather creating potential for more hazardous road conditions.

Ken Thevenot, Okotoks Fire Chief, says reflecting back it was a better summer for the department in regards to grass fire calls.

"Definitely July and August was quieter with grass fires. Our spring we had some grass fires which is normal for us, the only thing that we really had to deal with this summer was the smoke in our community but other than that our grass fires were pretty average for us or maybe just slightly below average."

Thevenot adds along with more frequent rain this summer, it can be attributed to residents' compliance.

"I think we can attribute it to the residents. I think the discarding smoking materials has been in the news and some of the education has been with that so hopefully residents are looking at that contributing to some of the grass fires that we do have to deal with."

This past week the Okotoks Fire Department responded to 20 calls including 12 medical responses, one rescue, one fire pit complaint, two public service calls, two motor vehicle accidents, and two gas leaks.
