The Okotoks Fire Department is hoping residents will keep safety mind while having fun at Light Up Okotoks.

Ken Thevenot, Okotoks Fire Chief, says members of the department will be out and about at the event and residents shouldn't be afraid to stop and say hi.

"There will be fire fighters, police officers, and municipal enforcement officers and we will have a command post set up there as well so any of the town staff, protective services members, and emergency responders you can ask them for help."

Thevenot adds residents should plan ahead and just be aware.

"Be aware of the fire pits and any smoke travel if there's any wind and when you're standing around just pay attention to how close you are to the fire pits. There is going to be lots of people so make sure you have a meeting point with your kids incase they get lost. Also, if there's larger animals around, like a horse and sleigh, just be aware to give them their space."

The fire department will also be selling hot dogs and hot chocolate at Light Up with all proceeds going to the Foothills Country Hospice.

This past week the department responded to 22 calls, 13 medical responses, 5 alarm system activations, three fire responses, and one public hazard.
