The writer that penned "18 Inches of Rain" is looking for some sun.

Ian Tyson says the grass has never looked better on his ranch outside of Longview.

Tyson says he's been busy writing, performing and cutting.

"I'm riding quite a bit and competing on my little bay horse this year", he says, "I don't like to travel to far and he's getting up in years but there's quite a few shows around in Okotoks and Claresholm".

Tyson will travel to Washington DC to join other Alberta artists at shows at the Smithsonian this summer and this fall he will receive Alberta's highest honor, the Order of Excellence from the Lieutenant Governor, Norman Kwong.
