A weekend check stop led High River RCMP to take off after a driver who had second thoughts about going through it.

The check stop was set up north of the bridge on Centre Street Sunday night.

The driver of a car at the back of the line stopped and quickly turned around and took off.

An officer jumped in his vehicle and went after it but by then the car was out of sight.

The vehicle was quickly found abandoned south of the traffic circle at 12th Avenue and Centre Street and there was beer found on the front seat.

One officer says the driver was likely impaired and it wasn't the first impaired driver found at that check stop on Sunday.
