For the first time in nearly a month, Alberta's chief medical officer of health will be back in front of the cameras for an update on COVID-19.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw will address Albertans on the virus after many people have grown concerned about the rising case numbers in the province.

Tuesday (July 27) Alberta Health reported 134 new cases of the virus brought the total number of active cases to 1,173, a number that hasn't been seen since Hinshaw's last update on June 29, just before the government lifted most remaining health restrictions.

Recently the numbers have been rising, prompting fears that the fall could see a fourth wave of COVID-19.

When giving her last update, Hinshaw said she could return to her podium if cases started to become a concern again or if the restrictions that remained in place were to be lifted.

The update is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
