A doctor from Taber has had his practice permit suspended.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta made the announcement on Friday, September 9.

Dr. Petrus Krog, a general practitioner, was handed a three-month suspension after he admitted to exchanging texts of a sexual nature with a patient.

While he's been suspended for three months, he was credited with having served 22 days in which he was out of practice while he moved residence from Milk River to Taber.

The original complaint was made in early 2019 with the Hearing Tribunal on June 15, 2022, with the decision announced on August 19, 2022.

An existing chaperone condition remains in place until he completes a year of psychological counselling and the Assistant Registrar of CPSA's Physician Health Monitoring Program is satisfied it's no longer needed.

Krog is also responsible for two-thirds of the costs of the investigation and hearing.

He emigrated to Canada in 2015 from South Africa after graduating from medical school in 2009.

Krog began his practice in Milk River, AB from August 2015 to March 2020 and moved to Taber shortly thereafter.
