Some bad news for residents of Turner Valley and Black Diamond with the official cancellation of this year's Discovery Days and Parade.

Turner Valley Mayor, Barry Crane, says it a tough choice, but one they had to make.

"Yeah, it's very unfortunate, I mean the parade and Discovery Days is kind of our highlight to the kick off of Summer. Of course it would have been taking place this weekend. It's very, very difficult for Council and the people of Turner Valley and Black Diamond to not have their parade to go to. It's very sad actually."

Crane says he and the rest of Council have discussed a few other ways to gather people for an event in a more socially distant manner.

And Crane has a favourite.

"One of them that I want to pose to Diamond Valley residents and other communities too, I think it's a great idea would be a "COVID Art in the Park." Everyone's got hobbies and has been home and learning and trying their new hobbies. So, "COVID Art in the Park," would be a great kickoff once we get to the stage where we can start having gatherings again I think."

Crane says they'd thought about moving Discovery Days to September, but without some sort of indication from the Province the rules would be changing, they didn't want to put all the time and money into planning it, only to have to cancel it again.
