CanFax Market Analyst Dallas Rodger gave a beef market update and forecast last week at Manitoba Agriculture's Beef and Forage Day in Vita.

He said the demand for Canadian beef is strong.

"What's been huge, has been on the export markets," explained Rodger. "We've been able to move more beef at higher prices...just insatiable demand from key markets. China's been really key."

Rodger notes Canada has an advantage over the U.S. when exporting to China, because of our ractopamine-free beef.

He says three quarters of what Canada exports goes into the U.S. and Mexico, adding NAFTA is an important agreement to keep the beef flowing south.
