Work to decommission an orphan well west of Turner Valley isn't expected to begin for a while.

A notice on the Orphan Well Association's website says the Katana Resources British Dominion well was shut down in 1997.

According to a spokesman for the association, there are still a number of steps they have to go through before the decommissioning begins.

Approvals have to be in place, they have to get the money for the project and an appropriate drilling rig to ensure the work goes smoothly.

He said because of that the work may not start until March.
