It's decision day for voters in the Brooks Medicine Hat byelection.

Premier Danielle Smith is running for the UCP with the hope she can gain a seat in the legislature and start introducing some of the bills she's talked out during the leadership campaign and since she became party leader.

Polls show 7,538 advance votes were cast in the 2019 general election while this time around only 4,231 were cast.

That means 30 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots in the 2019 advance polls compared to just 12 per cent this time.

NDP candidate Gwendoline Dirk and Alberta Party Leader Barry Morishita are also in the running along with the Independence Party’s Bob Blayone and Wildrose Independence Party of Alberta’s Jeevan Mangat.
